Aligning Insights Discovery with Mojo: How They Work Together
In today’s workplace, understanding what drives your people and how they interact with others is key to building high-performing teams. At Learning Cog, we’ve seen the power of combining two tools—Insights Discovery and Mojo (Motivational Maps)—to create a complete view of your team’s behaviour and motivation.
Let’s explore how these tools work individually, and more importantly, how they complement each other to transform team dynamics.
What is Insights Discovery?
Insights Discovery is a personality profiling tool based on the work of Carl Jung. It uses a simple four-colour model to help people understand themselves and others in terms of their behavioural preferences:
- Fiery Red – Direct, driven, and competitive
- Sunshine Yellow – Enthusiastic, sociable, and dynamic
- Earth Green – Supportive, empathetic, and reliable
- Cool Blue – Analytical, precise, and thoughtful
It’s particularly useful for improving communication, building trust, and strengthening relationships within teams.
What is Mojo (Motivational Maps)?
Mojo, based on Motivational Maps, looks at something different: not how people behave, but what motivates them. It identifies what gives people energy and satisfaction at work, helping managers and teams understand how well those motivational needs are currently being met.
Motivators include things like:
- Purpose and meaning
- Personal growth and learning
- Recognition and influence
- Financial reward or stability
- Freedom and autonomy
Mojo offers a practical, actionable way to support engagement, retention, and individual performance.
Why Use Both Together?
Insights Discovery and Mojo are two complementary tools that, when used together, provide a deeper, more complete understanding of your team.
Insights focuses on behavioural preferences—how people communicate, make decisions, and interact. Mojo looks at motivational drivers—what energises individuals and keeps them engaged at work. Insights helps strengthen communication and collaboration within teams. Mojo supports performance by uncovering what truly matters to each person and aligning their role with what motivates them.
Used together, they offer a powerful lens into both behaviour and motivation—revealing how someone operates, how they relate to others, and what drives them to do their best work.
Together, they create a more complete picture of each team member: how they show up, how they work with others, and what drives them to perform at their best.
Practical Example: From Insight to Action
Let’s say a team member has a strong Cool Blue preference in Insights—meaning they value structure and accuracy. If their Mojo map highlights that they’re highly motivated by Expert (the need for mastery and specialisation), their ideal role might include opportunities to develop deep expertise, take on complex problem-solving, and be recognised for technical skill.
Understanding both their behavioural style and motivational needs helps you lead and support them in a way that feels personalised and effective.
Putting It All Into Practice
At Learning Cog, we often combine these tools in our development sessions:
- We start with Mojo to uncover what motivates each individual and how well those motivators are being fulfilled.
- We then introduce Insights Discovery to help the team better understand their collective dynamics and individual communication styles.
- We bring it all together with reflection and planning, helping teams translate this self-awareness into action.
This dual approach creates more self-aware individuals, more empathetic teams, and more responsive leadership.
Final Thoughts
Insights Discovery tells you how someone works.
Mojo tells you why they work.
When used together, they unlock deeper understanding, stronger engagement, and long-term growth—for individuals and the business.
Want to explore how these tools can support your team? We’d love to help.
