Inside The LearningCog Team Building Day
At LearningCog, we’re always looking for ways to strengthen our team dynamics and improve collaboration. Our recent Team Building Day in Brighton was a perfect mix of insight, motivation, and a little bit of adventure. Here’s a look at how we spent our day and why it worked so well for us, and how you can adapt it to your own team!
Mojo Introduction: Understanding Our Motivation
We kicked off the day with a talk on Mojo, a motivational app that helps individuals discover their biggest motivators. Mojo is a tool that reveals what drives us — whether it's sercurity, creativity, or the desire to help others. After everyone completed their Mojo assessments, we gathered to share our results and discuss the motivations that stood out to us.
What’s great about Mojo is that it emphasises how our motivators can shift over time and are not set in stone. It’s a tool for reflection, not a definitive label. This open discussion allowed us to understand each other better and appreciate what fuels each team member, which in turn can help improve how we collaborate on projects. It was a wonderful exercise in self-awareness and empathy, which are essential ingredients for any effective team.
The Importance of Team Building
After the Mojo talk, we dove into an exhilarating team-building activity - the 'Escape the Vault' escape room! But before we get into the details, let’s first talk about why team building is so crucial for us at LearningCog and why it’s essential for any company.
Team building isn’t just about fun activities. It’s about building stronger relationships, improving communication, and encouraging trust. When you understand your colleagues’ strengths and motivators, it becomes much easier to work together toward common goals. And this is exactly what our Team Building Day was all about.
The 'Escape the Vault' experience was a perfect example of how effective teamwork can be. We were tasked with "robbing a bank" by solving clues, cracking codes, and working through challenges. The clock was ticking, and we had to rely on each other’s strengths to pull off the perfect heist. The energy was high, the collaboration was seamless, and when we finally escaped (successfully, of course!), the sense of achievement was undeniable.
Spending a sunny day in Brighton with the team made it even more memorable. It was a chance to bond outside of the office and build connections that will help us in our work moving forward.
Applying Insights Discovery to Team Building
One key takeaway from our day was how we could apply Insights Discovery to what we had learned through the Mojo talk and the escape room activity. Insights Discovery is a personality profiling system that helps people understand how their natural preferences affect communication, decision-making, and teamwork. It’s a fantastic tool for enhancing teamwork because it helps individuals recognise the value in diverse perspectives and work styles.
By using both Mojo and Insights Discovery, we were able to reflect on not only what motivates us but also how our personalities shape the way we approach problems and tasks. The escape room, for example, highlighted how different team members naturally took on different roles: some were natural leaders, others were excellent problem-solvers, and some brought in a creative approach to finding solutions. Understanding these dynamics allows us to be more strategic in how we work together.
Conclusion: The Power of Team Building
At the end of the day, we walked away with a deeper understanding of ourselves and our colleagues. It was a chance to connect on a personal level and have fun, while also learning more about the different motivators and personality types that make each of us unique. The day reinforced just how crucial team building is in strengthening relationships and enhancing collaboration.
For any company, team-building activities are not just about having fun (although that’s certainly a huge part of it!). They’re about creating a work culture where communication, trust, and mutual respect thrive. If you’re planning your own team-building day, we highly recommend using tools like Mojo and Insights Discovery to help deepen those connections and provide meaningful insights. And, of course, don’t forget to add some fun — an escape room challenge always does the trick!
So, take a page out of our book and plan a day that will help your team grow closer, work better together, and maybe even pull off a heist! 😉
